Following the Scarborough-based Royal Hotel's fall into administration, the owners of the nearby Crown Spa Hotel are considering acquiring the commercial premises.
The directors of the Crown Spa Hotel are said to be currently awaiting financial reports on the Royal - which is located on St Nicholas Street - following extensive tours of the hotel in a bid to assist in their decision-making process.
Following the demise of the Royal Hotel's owner, English Rose Hotels, last month, it was placed into the hands of administrators alongside three other hotels.
The other commercial premises - all of which are located in Scarborough - include the Clifton Hotel in Queen Parade, the Wrea Head Hotel and the Hackness Grange Hotel. Each of the hotels is currently for sale.
The Royal Hotel, which dates back to the 19th Century and comprises 110 bedrooms, would enable the Crown Spa Hotel's owners, Richard and David Frank, to significantly increase their presence in Scarborough.
Richard Frank told Scarborough Today, “Yes we were looking around the Royal … We are still waiting for them to get their figures together and are awaiting details of exactly what is for sale. It surprised us when it went it in to administration, however it is an opportunity, and you never actually know if it is an opportunity until you go and have a look.
“We are looking at it as an opportunity, and whether it is the right opportunity we are still debating,” he added.
