West Midlands accountancy firm BK Plus has made its first acquisitions in Scotland with the purchase of Glasgow-based Cornerstone Accountants and Dundee’s FourM Accountants as it continues its expansion drive.
BK Plus, backed by private equity investor Palatine, has grown to 25 offices nationwide since it was founded by Shaun Knight and David Baldwin in 2021. It focusses on supporting small and medium sized businesses (SMEs) with a range of services including corporate finance, banking, auditing, payroll and cloud accounting.
Cornerstone Accountants also provides accounting and financial services to SMEs in Glasgow. Partner at Cornerstone, Kenneth McEwen said: “We were looking for a firm that shared our approach and core beliefs, and we found that synergy with BK Plus. We are excited about what the future holds, confident that this partnership will allow us to continue providing exceptional service while expanding the range of resources and expertise available to our clients.”
Graham McLelland, partner at FourM, which provides tailored services to businesses in the Dundee area, added: "Becoming part of BK Plus is a fantastic opportunity for our firm. We've always prided ourselves on delivering the best possible service to our clients, and now we'll be able to offer them even more resources and specialist knowledge."
The two deals will see around 100 new staff added to the group.
Knight of BK Plus said he was thrilled to lead the firm’s first venture into Scotland emphasising the importance of accountants having a local focus on the needs and demands of their clients. "We have always said that local businesses are best served by local advisors who understand the unique dynamics of their markets, “he said.
He cited a recent report which revealed that 72 per cent of SMEs valued the ‘critical role’ accountants play in their operational development as evidence of the strong link between the two.
Knight added that more acquisitions in Scotland were in the pipline. “This expansion is just the beginning,” he said.
