Nursery group Kids Planet has announced the acquisition of Kinder Haven Nurseries, taking its total number of nurseries within the UK to 94. This acquisition comes amid a period of busy dealmaking within the nurseries and childcare sectors, much of which is being generated by private equity-backed firms such as Kids Planet.
The acquisition of Kinder Haven, a group of nine nurseries with 930 places, will give Kids Planet a presence across Bradford and Leeds. Kinder Haven was founded by husband and wife Darren and Danielle Dixon in 2002 and focuses on child-centred care and learning for children under five years.
Mrs Dixon said: "Having made the decision to sell Kinder Haven it was important for us to choose a company with a great reputation and the same ethos and values. We are delighted to have chosen Kids Planet to nurture the Kinder Haven family, continue the legacy and take it to the next level. Kids Planet was the right fit for us, they are a hugely successful nursery group dedicated to providing exceptional childcare with a strong commitment to staff development.”
The nine Kinder Haven nurseries are located in Pudsey, Bradford, Eccleshill, Wyke, Horsforth and Clayton and now comprise part of Kids Planet’s UK-wide portfolio.
Kids Planet CEO Clare Roberts said: "We are delighted to be chosen by Darren and Danielle to take over at Kinder Haven. We are excited to have established a more significant presence in West Yorkshire and to be able to build upon the already high standards of care that have been implemented by the Kinder Haven management team and we immediately recognised the synergies between the two nursery groups. We look forward to working with the management team as we move forward together."
Kids Planet was founded in 2008 and is now responsible for the care and education of over 10,000 children. The company received financial backing from private equity growth fund BGF from 2016 onwards, with investment of over £40 million enabling it to more than quadruple its portfolio in five years through acquisitions.
Last month, BGF exited its investment in Kids Planet , with European investment firm Fremman acquiring a majority stake in the business. The sale saw BGF generate a 3x MM on its initial investment, while Fremman has pledged to accelerate Kids Planets' national expansion.
