A hotel formerly owned by a York City footballer has come onto the market.
The Clifton Bridge Hotel, located in Water End, York, has been put up for sale by its owner, who is retiring.
The hotel's current owner, Arthur Ferraioli, purchased it from ex-footballer and coach of York City Football Club, Barry Swallow, in 2005. Mr Ferraioli reported that Mr Swallow made the decision to sell the hotel after the backlash from fans angered at the financial problems of the football club.
Mr Ferraioli owns two other guest-houses both located in York, both of which he plans to keep, as he says they are easier to run than the hotel.
He told the York Press, “I’m 65 so I’m retiring. Somebody, like a husband-and-wife team, would be ideal to take it on and do meals." The hotel currently offers bed and breakfast accommodation but no full meals.
Mr Ferraioli has reported that he has already received some interest in the commercial property - from a local York pub-owner amongst others.
He added, “If I don’t get the price I want for it, I can’t retire. I know this is a very prime spot and a nice little building and attracts a lot of attention from the road.”
