UK holiday firm Haven has acquired the Richmond Holiday Centre in Skegness. The deal is the company’s first holiday park acquisition in six years and its first takeover since parent company Bourne Leisure was acquired by The Blackstone Group in 2021.
The acquisition comes amid a continuing surge in the UK’s staycation market, spurred on by the COVID-19 pandemic. After lockdowns initially forced UK residents to make domestic holidays, appetite for UK-based holidays has shown strong growth, even as international travel restrictions have eased.
Richmond Holiday Centre takes Haven’s estate of UK holiday parks up to 41 and, with the backing of Blackstone, the company has plans to expand further and target other potential locations.
Haven Managing Director Simon Palethorpe said: “We believe the acquisition of Richmond Holiday Centre provides us with a fantastic platform to move into one of the UK’s prime seaside locations for the first time and clearly demonstrates our commitment to the domestic tourism industry.”
Palethorpe added: "With the support of Blackstone, we continue to look for opportunities to expand the business further and are always open to welcoming similar businesses to the growing Haven family in the future.”
Richmond Holiday Centre is based on the Lincolnshire Coast. The park, which has been family-owned for over 50 years, offers more than 700 pitches, serving both holidaymakers and holiday home-owners. The park’s facilities include pools, restaurants and entertainment venues, while the site is located a short walk from the beach resort town of Skegness. Haven plans to invest further in the park, building on the work of its previous owners.
The acquisition significantly expands Haven’s presence on England’s east coast and joins its existing Lincolnshire sites, which include Thorpe Park, Cleethorpes and Golden Sands, Mablethorpe. Post-acquisition, the park immediately becomes part of the wider Haven group, but will continue to trade under its existing brand for the 2022 holiday season.
